Lava Flow into the Ocean at Night
In the pre-dawn hours of the 14th of February, 2013, I was fortunate enough to watch the lava flow on Hawaii's big island from a boat. This was a close encounter with nature's fury that allowed me to capture it's pure beauty in the dark of night. The water seen here can be observed in both liquid and gaseous state as it begins to cool the lava hitting the Pacific Ocean at 700 to 1,200 °C (1,292 to 2,192 °F).
